What is a charcoal production line?
Charcoal production line refers to the complete process of processing raw materials (wood, bamboo, straw, rice husk, coconut shell, sawdust, etc.) into charcoal through a series of charcoal equipment. Its core links include raw material pretreatment, carbonization, molding, and cooling. In recent years, more and more companies have developed charcoal production lines, established charcoal processing plants, and devoted themselves to the charcoal making industry.

Global distribution of charcoal processing plants
The distribution of global charcoal plants is closely related to raw material resources, market demand, environmental protection policies and industrialization levels, showing obvious regional differences.
| Region | Core products | Technical features | Competitive advantages | Advantageous raw materials |
| Southeast Asia | Barbecue charcoal, machine-made charcoal | Low raw material cost | Coconut shell, palm shell | |
| Africa | Hardwood charcoal | Mainly earth kiln (80%) | Rich resources, but backward technology | Hardwood |
| South America | Biochar, barbecue charcoal, machine-made charcoal, hookah charcoal | Utilization of agricultural waste | Policy support | Coffee shell, sugarcane bagasse |
| Europe | High-end smokeless charcoal, medical activated carbon | Intelligent production line | Leading technology | Oak, olive kernel |
| China | Bamboo charcoal, straw charcoal, barbecue charcoal | Scale + low price advantage | Overcapacity, export dependence on price war | Oak, corn, straw |
What raw materials are suitable for charcoal production line?

Raw materials for making charcoal
There are many types of raw materials used to make charcoal in charcoal production line.
- Hardwood: oak, birch, oak, etc. High density (0.6-1.2g/cm³) and high calorific value (7000-8000kcal/kg), suitable for making high-quality barbecue charcoal and metallurgical charcoal.
- Softwood: pine, poplar, eucalyptus. The wood is loose and the carbonization time is short, which is suitable for ordinary machine-made charcoal.
- Fruit shell/kernel: coconut shell, walnut shell, walnut shell. High fiber, low ash, suitable for producing high-density charcoal.
- Crop straw: rice husk, corn straw, sugarcane bagasse. Suitable for machine-made charcoal.
- Other waste: coffee shell, palm shell, peanut shell.

Raw material pretreatment
- Crushing: Wood/bamboo is cut into 3-5mm fragments by a crusher, and straw/fruit shell is crushed into 1-3mm particles.
- Drying: The drum dryer reduces the moisture content of the raw material to 8%-12%.

Carbonization system
Here we recommend a continuous drum carbonization furnace, because the charcoal making process shared today is mainly carbonization first and then forming (CB process). If your charcoal making process is forming first and then carbonization, we recommend a hoisting carbonization furnace.

Temperature control:
- Low temperature charcoal (300-400℃): retains volatile matter, used as activated carbon raw material.
- Medium temperature charcoal (400-600℃): balanced density and calorific value, suitable for barbecue charcoal.
- High temperature charcoal (600-800℃): high density, low volatile matter, used as metallurgical reducing agent.
Molding and post-processing
carbon powder + adhesive (5%-8% starch) is extruded into hexagonal fuel rods (density ≥1.1g/cm³)
